WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF DOPPLEROGRAPHY?

1. Doppler imaging of brain vessels in Lviv

Ultrasound dopplerography of the vessels of the brain is used to assess blood flow (blood circulation in the vessels of the brain). Doppler of brain vessels is a complex study, the effectiveness of which depends on the experience and knowledge of the doctor who performs dopplerography. Doppler of brain vessels is used to evaluate:

• risk of cerebral blood circulation disorders – stroke;
• spasm of brain vessels;
• after coronary artery bypass surgery (to assess the risk of brain embolism);
• neurosurgical patients;
• migraines and unexplained headaches;
• vegeto-vascular dystonia;
• dizziness appeared.

2. Dopplerography of vessels of the neck

Doppler of the vessels of the neck can detect diseases of the carotid and vertebral arteries. As a rule, it is prescribed by a neurologist. Symptoms for which doppler of the vessels of the neck is prescribed:

• ischemic attacks (with temporary paralysis of half the body or arm, speech impairment, etc.);
• temporary blindness in one eye;
• noises in the head;
• dizziness;
• flickering before the eyes;
• headaches without clear localization;
• short-term loss of consciousness;
• falling without loss of consciousness;
• temporary disturbances of balance;
• migraine or migraine-like headaches. 

3. Dopplerography of leg vessels

Doppler of the vessels of the lower extremity allows to detect diseases of the arteries and veins of the lower extremity. It is prescribed and sometimes performed by a vascular surgeon. Symptoms and diseases:

• diseases of the arteries of the lower extremities;
• lameness (pain in the calf muscles that appear when walking and disappear after a short rest);
• chilliness, increased sensitivity of the legs to cold;
• a feeling of numbness in the feet;
• diseases of the veins of the lower extremities;
• varicose dilation of the veins of the lower extremities;
• heaviness and swelling of the legs;
• calf muscle cramps;
• igmentation of the skin on the lower legs. 

4. Doppler imaging of the abdominal cavity

Allows to evaluate the blood flow of the arteries and veins of the abdominal cavity. Contributes to the diagnosis of blocked blood flow in the organs of the abdominal cavity, and also helps to determine such pathologies as tumor-like formations in the abdomen, cholecystitis and stones in the gall bladder, as well as diseases of the liver, kidneys, pancreas and spleen.

5. Doppler imaging in obstetrics

This type of ultrasound dopplerography is used to assess the functioning of the placenta, measuring the speed of blood flow from the placenta to the baby through the vessels of the umbilical cord and in the organs of the fetus (brain, liver, umbilical cord, etc.).

The doctor may prescribe a fetal doppler if there are concerns about the intrauterine growth of the baby, or if the mother suffers from high blood pressure or preeclampsia, because these conditions can also impair the intrauterine development of the child due to the deterioration of blood flow through the vessels of the umbilical cord.

If the doppler detects high resistance to blood flow through the arteries, the question of premature birth may arise.
