Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive method of diagnosing internal organs and tissues based on the use of a magnetic field and radio frequency pulses, which form an image.
Unlike CT and Rg examinations, the body is not exposed to ionizing radiation during MRI, which allows for safe examination of adults and children.
MRI is one of the most effective methods for diagnosing diseases of the brain and
and spinal cord, spine, joints, abdominal and pelvic organs (except for the stomach and intestines), as well as the heart and blood vessels.
Referral for MRI does not necessarily mean that you have any disease - your doctor may want to clarify your health status.
Acquired pathologies in the perinatal period are also detected. These are post-hypoxic, post-traumatic, or spontaneous hemorrhages (subependymal, intraventricular, parenchymal, subarachnoid, subdural).
In the case of hypoxic-ischemic lesions of the central nervous system, foci of encephalomalacia and porencephalic cysts are visualized.
Dopplerography assesses blood flow in the main vessels of the brain by velocity and resistance index.
All of these pathologies require dynamic monitoring. However, if the child did not undergo neurosonography (NSG) in time, then brain visualization is possible only by CT or MRI after the closure of the fossa.

Preparation for MRI at the NOVO Medical Center
Preparation for magnetic resonance imaging
1. Usually, there is no need for special preparation for the examination, and there are no restrictions on food intake.
2. Exceptions are MRI of abdominal cavity with MR cholangiography (examination is performed on an empty stomach - it is advisable not to eat for at least 4 hours before the examination).
3. MRI of pelvic organs - it is necessary to make microenema and limit food intake on the day of examination.
4. Before MRI of abdominal cavity, as well as any examinations with intravenous administration of contrast agent, a light breakfast or lunch will not interfere.
5. For young children who undergo this examination under medication sleep, there is a separate preparation: it is necessary to refuse to eat for 6 hours and drink for 4 hours before the start of the diagnosis.
Also, at the time of examination, the child should be healthy, without cough, runny nose, fever or other acute conditions.
6. If a woman who is breastfeeding a child needs to undergo a contrast-enhanced examination, she should express milk 24 hours before the examination.
7. Before undergoing cardiac MRI, men should shave their chest the day before for effective fixation of electrodes on the body.
