- frequent diarrhea or constipation;
- pain in the abdomen or rectum;
- feeling of bloating, intestinal colic;
- sudden weight loss without changing the diet and other reasons;
- anemia of unknown origin (low hemoglobin level);
- feeling of a foreign body in the rectum;
- suspicion of the presence of various (malignant and benign) neoplasms of the colon, which were detected by other diagnostic methods (CT, MRI or USG);
- search for the primary tumor if metastases are detected;
- monitoring of conservative and surgical treatment.
Note that any of the above bowel problems, as well as a burdened heredity (close relatives diagnosed with carcinoma or adenoma) and reaching a certain age (recommended after 40 years even in the absence of any symptoms) requires immediate consultation with an endoscopist.
In the case of a routine preventive examination (those examinations that are carried out as a screening for colorectal cancer), the patient is recommended to undergo a complete blood count (+ platelet count), coagulogram, and discontinue taking blood thinners the day before. Because during the diagnosis, the doctor can immediately remove any minor changes in the mucous membrane, i.e., perform medical manipulations, of course, after agreeing with the patient.
