What is CT of the spine?
Computed tomography of the spine in Lviv is one of the diagnostic methods. It allows to obtain three-dimensional images of the spine in all projections. Its high level of informativeness allows the doctor to study in detail the structure and individual anatomical features of the vertebrae - their density, symmetry, etc., as well as the structure and condition of the spinal canal and spinal cord in it.
Partial visualization of intervertebral discs is also possible with CT. Thanks to this method, it is possible to detect the presence of neoplasms, inflammatory changes, injuries and determine the course of treatment as accurately as possible. CT scan of the spine can provide much more detailed information about the spinal bones (vertebrae), discs between the vertebrae and other spinal structures and tissues than standard X-rays of the spine.

PREPARATION FOR COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY OF THE SPINE
Before undergoing a computed tomography of the spine in Lviv, the patient must inform the doctor about all medications he or she is taking (prescription and over-the-counter), as well as vitamins, herbs and supplements. Provide full information about a recent illness or other diseases, such as heart disease, kidney disease, asthma, diabetes, or thyroid problems. This will help prevent complications during the examination.
If the patient suffers from claustrophobia, he or she may be asked to take a sedative. The patient should refrain from eating and drinking before the scan. All metal items, including jewelry, glasses, dentures and hairpins, should be removed.
If contrast material is used, it will be administered intravenously during the procedure. A spinal scan may also be done after contrast material is injected into the spinal canal (usually well below the spinal cord) during a lumbar puncture test, also known as a myelogram. This can help identify areas of inflammation or nerve compression or detect tumors.
